Monterey Trail High School all-state running back Trey Nahhas has signed a NCAA National Letter of Intent to play college football at Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo.

The 2,599-yard rusher who led the Mustangs to the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I semifinals joins former Elk Grove High School linebackers Josh and Noah Letuligasenoa and defensive lineman Marcus Paige-Allen, a Sheldon High School graduate, at Cal Poly.

Ex-Folsom quarterback Dano Graves is also currently at Cal Poly.

Cal Poly posted a 7-5 mark in 2014, including a 5-3 record and a fifth-place finish in the 13-team Big Sky Conference.

Nahhas set a Sac-Joaquin Section playoff rushing record with 398 yards in a second-round playoff win over Merced. He scored a total of 34 touchdowns in the 2014 season.

He inked his letter-of-intent in a lunchtime ceremony Wednesday at Monterey Trail alongside of Tiara Webb, a multi-sport athlete who will play soccer at the University of San Francisco.

Webb also runs for the track and field team and is in the midst of her basketball season at Monterey Trail.

Though Nahhas also had offers from Sacramento State and UC Davis and visited Cal, Nahhas had mentioned his desire to attend Cal Poly immediately after his football season had ended.

“I want to be a Mustang because of the great coaches and players,” he told the Citizen Nov. 26. “They have a run-heavy offense…and I want to major in biomedical engineering.”

Also signing a national football letter-of-intent was Elk Grove running back Manny Scott-Anderson, who signed with Sacramento State.

Head coach Jody Sears was elated Scott-Anderson wanted to play his college football locally, becoming the only Elk Grove-area player to commit to Sac State this season.

“Manny is a very good football player who’s quick, fast and physical,” Sears said. “We have him penciled in at corner right now but he’s also played on the offensive side of the ball as a running back. The intangibles that set him apart are his character and leadership. He’s in our back yard and we can never have enough good players from the Sacramento area.”

Scott-Anderson, who was part of a talented backfield at Elk Grove last season, rushed for 962 yards and 14 touchdowns as a senior.

Elk Grove also made it to the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II semifinals in 2014 behind a three-headed running attack of Scott-Anderson, Eltoro Allen and Spencer Sheff.

It was the fourth straight Division II semifinals appearance for Elk Grove.

Other letters signed Wednesday were by Franklin High School golfer Kylie Fong, who will play at Grand Canyon University, and by Malaya Elgarico, a wrestler who signed with Eastern Michigan.

Fong won the Sac-Joaquin Section North Division I championship in October and won the MVP award in the Delta League. She took first place in all four league tournaments during the fall.

“I don’t personally see myself as a professional,” Fong told the Citizen in November. “I see myself continuing to play golf. More like, just for fun.”

Elk Grove resident and St. Francis High School senior Addie Wallace signed a national letter-of-intent to play soccer at Villanova.

“I really liked the school and coaches,” said Wallace about the Philadelphia-based school.  “It has been nice to know where I was going especially since I love the school.”

Wallace will play for head coach Fran Kulas, who is entering his second season directing the program and fifth overall at Villanova. The Wildcats play in the Big East Conference and are coming off a 5-10-4 season.

“I really like that they have a roster of 22,” Wallace said. “I feel like I can get playing time and the whole team travels. I really liked the coach. He is really good with the girls and protective.”

Wallace, who was also recruited by Notre Dame among other schools, plays center back.

Jesuit had 12 student-athletes sign letters of intent at a school-hosted ceremony last week.

Among those, Elk Grove resident Mychael Goudreaux signed to play baseball at Azusa-Pacific University.

Other Jesuit signings included: Luc Barbe, soccer, Army; Grant Bringham, crew, Washington; Matt Carnefix, soccer, San Jose State; Kori Collons, football, Nevada; Tanner Dodson, baseball, Cal; Gonzalo Garcia, soccer, Westmont College; Isaac Lessard, football, San Diego State; Keith Lewis, crew, Washington; Chris Loeb, baseball, Oregon State; Miguel Martinez, track and field, Cal; and Michael Titherington, track and field, Arizona State.

February 4 was the first day NCAA football and most spring sports could sign high school recruits to commitments. The signing period continues through April 1 for football and through August 1 for the others.

Signings for basketball and other sports can begin April 15.
