Monterey Trail navigated the unusual spring season and scheduling issues to post a 5-0 record and an average margin of victory of 29 points.

The Mustangs graduated RB/DB Prophet Brown (who sat out the spring season), RB/DB Chris Lands, WR/DB Jamauri Jackson, RB Otha Williams Jr., LB Nekhi Broadway and lineman Andreas Argumedo among others.

This fall, they will lean on a strong offensive line and a new, but intriguing secondary.

“The offensive line will be a strength with the size and physicality of our guys,” Monterey Trail head coach TJ Ewing said. “We have to lean on that.”

Uvante Usher (5-foot-10, 290 pounds), Tayshaun Evans (6-foot-5), Marcell Wilson (6-foot-2, 235 pounds) and Andre Royster (5-foot-11, 300 pounds) are offensive linemen to watch.

Ronnie Brutus (5-foot-11, 170 pounds), Brevin Amiga (6-foot-2, 185 pounds) and Mizay Davis (5-foot-11, 165 pounds) will lead the secondary, which showed well this summer at multiple 7-on-7 events, Ewing said.

Senior quarterback Frank Arcuri (6-foot-0, 175 pounds) threw for three touchdowns and ran for three scores (five games) in his first season as a starter. Linebacker Tanaki Tonga (6-foot-0, 195 pounds) was No. 2 in tackles during the spring (47).

Ewing has put together a difficult non-league schedule starting with Folsom on August 20. The Mustangs then travel to Cosumnes Oaks and De La Salle. They return home to play Lincoln-Stockton and Clayton Valley Charter.
