The recruiting designation athlete signals a player who is recruitable at multiple positions. Few players embody that designation better than Monterey Trail rising senior Zach Larrier. At 6-foot-0 and 180 pounds, Larrier has lined up at quarterback, wide receiver and defensive back.

"He's a really special kid," Monterey Trail head coach TJ Ewing said of Larrier, who moved to California from Youngstown, Ohio in the 8th grade. "He loves football. That's his passion. He likes competing."

Coming of his junior year, Larrier looks most natural at cornerback. He has good size and speed, which allows him to play at the line while being able to turn and run. He uses his hands well jamming receivers and has displayed good ball skills to locate the ball in air. He is a threat to create turnovers.

Those ball skills and route running make him an option at wide receiver.

Larrier, a three-star recruit, plays an option quarterback for the Mustangs. He is a straight ahead runner who can be hard to bring down. He has good feet in trafc to change speed and direction before getting back to top speed for long runs.

Larrier is also a standout runner in track and field. His best times this spring are 11.15 seconds in the 100 meters, 21.75 seconds in the 200 meters and 47.12 seconds in the 400 meters.

He has ofers from Army, Air Force, BYU, Cal, Columbia, Fresno State, Harvard, Nevada, Oregon State, Princeton, Sacramento State, Washington State, Wyoming and Yale.
