1. De La Salle (2-0) Beat Central Catholic 35-7 Next week: vs. Bishop O’Dowd LW: #1

The Spartans scored the first 21 points and led 21-7 at the half en route to the 28 point win. Junior Shamar Garrett had three rushing touchdowns and quarterback Dorian Hale had two touchdown passes to Grant Daley. They outgained Central Catholic 450-176, according to the Bay Area News Group, after being outgained by Folsom in Week 0. De La Salle has held seven of its last eight NorCal opponents to single digits.

 

2. Folsom (2-0) Beat Jesuit 51-14 Next week: vs. Antelope LW: #2

Back at home, Folsom rolled past Jesuit is a matchup of the top two ranked team in the Sac-Joaquin Section. Ater a 7-7 first quarter tie, Folsom scored 27 unanswered in the second quarter to set up the blow out. The Bulldogs rushed for 210 yards led by 84 yards and a score from junior Daniyel Ngata. Senior Kaiden Bennett went 12-for-17 for 143 yards and four scores. Elijhah Badger had a team high four catches while senior Joe Ngata had two touchdowns. Parker Clayton, Tyler Hardeman and Deshawn Lynch combined for two sacks as Folsom had the clear size advantage over the Marauders.

 

3. Liberty (2-0) Beat Gilroy 57-0 Next week: at McClymonds LW: #3

The Lions blanked Gilroy at the Honor Bowl hosted at St. Francis High School in Mountain View. Junior quarterback Jay Butterfield went 10-for-13 for 207 yards and four first half touchdowns to Sione Vaki, Jordyn Turner, Mason Brandy and Cody Muth. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Liberty gave up -4 yards to Gilroy in the first half and registered 10 sacks before a running clock second half.

 

4. St. Francis, Mountain View (1-0) Beat Notre Dame-Sherman Oaks 23-12 Next week: at Oak Grove LW: #5

St. Francis went from the running game being a strength, to a question mark and now back to a strength after Opeti Fangupo had 16 attempts for 99 yards and two scores. The Lancers scored the first 14 points and then the final nine points after Notre Dame closed it to 14-12. New starting quarterback Jack Perry’s top targets were Evan Williams and Christopher Senteno. Senior Joshua Pakola had three sacks, according to the San Jose Mercury News.

 

5. Serra (0-1) Lost to Serra-Gardena 41-22 Next week: vs. Elk Grove LW: #4

Facing one of the top teams from Southern California, the Padres fell in the marquee game of the Honor Bowl. Serra trailed 21-7 at halftime. David Cocker had a team high 15 carries with limited success. Junior wide receiver Terence Loville had seven catches for 132 yards. The Padres were without junior defensive lineman Nusi Malani and then had linebacker EJ Lahlouh go down in the first half, according to the San Francisco Examiner.

 

6. Clayton Valley Charter (2-0) Beat Stellar Prep 56-0 Next week: at Concord LW: #7

Logan Sumter threw for 188 yards and three scores, including 97 yards and two touchdowns to Rayshawn Jackson. Carson Sumter and Tyson Vida each rushed for more than 100 yards as the Ugly Eagles finished with 492 total yards on 39 plays. Cade Carter had a team high 12 tackles after forcing two turnovers last week. They led 35-0 at halftime.

 

7. Pittsburg (1-1) Beat St. Mary’s-Stockton 48-7 Next week: at Centennial-Corona LW: #8

Four first half turnovers set up short fields for the Pirates and a resounding bounce back win against the Rams. Quarterback Trey Turner went 9-for-14 for 173 yards and touchdowns to Justin Boyd, Willie Harts III and Elijah Roberts. They used four different runners that got five or six carries each with Jack Lacy III converting on two short touchdown runs. Defensively, Pittsburg logged eight tackles for loss and got an interception return for a score by junior Avant Muldrow.

 

8. Jesuit (0-1) Lost to Folsom 51-14 Next week: Idle LW: #6

The Marauders had success early with its ground game, but didn’t have a counter when Folsom loaded up to stop the run in losing to the Bulldogs for the fourth time in the last three years. Cade Cunningham and Jackson Canaan combined for 85 rushing yards while senior Connor McIntee had a team high 65 yards on two catches. Jesuit had 35 runs to 18 passes and were outgained by Folsom 359-265. Star running back/defensive back Isaiah Rutherford left the game in the first half due to injury.

 

9. Placer (2-0) Beat Whitney 42-28 Next week: vs. Bishop Manogue LW: #9

Placer led 42-14 before two late touchdowns by Whitney heading into what is expected to be its toughest regular season game. The Hillmen had 52 rushing attempts for 420 yards (the same amount as last week) led by Hans Grassman (19 for 170 yards and three touchdowns) and Marshall Chapman (19 for 124 yards and two touchdowns). Brad Bishop added 75 yards and a score. Chandler Dakin had four tackles for loss and two sacks. It was win No. 100 for head coach Joey Montoya at Placer.

 

10. Freedom (2-0) Beat Windsor 68-0 Next week: vs. California LW: #10

For the second straight week, Freedom got off to a slow start before posting the blowout win. The Falcons got two special teams touchdowns and a defensive score from Giles Jackson for the second time in as many games. Freedom has scored at least 35 points in six of its last seven games dating back to last year.

 

11. Del Oro (2-0) Beat Oak Grove 58-20 Next week: vs. Windsor LW: #12

Playing its first three games against NCS competition, Del Oro led 37-6 at halftime and 58-6 after three quarters in the opening game at the Honor Bowl. Del Oro had a special teams score on the opening kickoff by Johnny Guzman and a defensive score. Carson Jarrett had touchdown passes to Dawson Hurst and Guzman. On defense, the Golden Eagles held Oak Grove to 2.4 yards per carry.

 

12. Cardinal Newman (2-0) Beat Cardinal Newman 24-0 Next week: Idle LW: #14

Playing its first on campus home game since the devastating wildfires last year, the Cardinals shut out the top ranked team in the Northern Section. Jackson Pavitt was 20-for-27 for 267 yards and three scores. Senior Jake Woods had six receptions for 51 yards and two of those touchdowns. The Cardinals rushed for 174 yards on 37 attempts. Pavitt had the most carries while Giancarlo Woods had the most yards at 74. Senior Dino Kahaulelio had 12 tackles, two for loss, and a sack.

 

13. Oak Ridge (2-0) Beat Vacaville 42-0 Next week: at Reed LW: #15

Oak Ridge held Vacaville to 200 total yards in shutting out the Bulldogs in what has been a one sided rivalry. Matt Jenner was 7-for-9 for 150 yards and junior Avant Jacobs finished with 111 receiving yards with a score. Sawyer Merrill also had more than 100 receiving yards. Nathan Addleman accounted for three rushing touchdowns. The Trojans’ defense logged eight tackles for loss.

 

14. St. Mary’s, Stockton (0-1) Lost to Pittsburg 48-7 Next week: at Central Catholic LW: #13

St. Mary’s quarterback Noah May had two first half interceptions and the Rams added two fumbles in a 48-7 loss at Pittsburg. The defense struggled defending short field, although they forced Pittsburg into fourth downs on two of its first three drives before they picked up conversions. Will Brown is the leading rusher behind an all senior offensive line.

 

15. Central Catholic (1-1) Lost to De La Salle 35-7 Next week: vs. St. Mary’s-Stockton LW: #16

While the Raiders stayed within two scores of De La Salle until the fourth quarter, they never led and will look to bounce back with the Holy Bowl matchup this week. They played two quarterbacks in juniors Kyle Jackson (41 yards and a touchdown to Justin Traina) and Dalton Durossette. Dawaiian McNeely and Kyle Jacklich accounted for 27 of the team’s 35 rushing attempts. D’Angelo Bellamy returned to action with a team high six tackles.

 

16. Wilcox (1-0) Beat Valley Christian, San Jose 10-6 Next week: vs. San Benito LW: NR

Some wins carry more weight and this was the case for Wilcox, which hadn’t beaten a WCAL team in more than a decade before Friday’s win over the No. 11 Warriors. Neither team had more than 200 total yards with junior Paul Rosa finishing at 63 rushing yards and a touchdown. Wilcox was able to overcome three turnovers. Last year, Wilcox shutout San Benito 35-0.

 

17. McClymonds (1-0) Beat Marin Catholic 26-0 Next week: vs. Liberty LW: #20

The Warriors moved up three spots on the heels of handing Marin Catholic its first shutout since 2015, according to the Marin Independent Journal. McClymonds got 131 rushing yards from Jarmar Julien and 87 yards from Adi Anderson. The Warriors defense allowed just six completions by Marin Catholic.

 

18. Monterey Trail (2-0) Beat San Ramon Valley 27-7 Next week: at Spanish Springs LW: NR

Zach Larrier had 19 rushes for 169 yards and two touchdowns in addition to 77 passing yards in the second impressive win for the Mustangs. Monterey Trail gave up 202 total yards and got two sacks from Arturo Pantoja.

 

19. Bishop O’Dowd (1-0) Beat Kennedy-Fremont (forfeit) Next week: at De La Salle LW: #17

The Dragons will have to wait another week to start their season after air quality issues postponed Thursday’s game against Kennedy-Fremont, according to the San Jose Mercury News. With Kennedy unable to reschedule last week, the Dragons were awarded a forfeit win.

 

20. El Cerrito (1-0) Beat De Anza 32-7 Next week: vs. Rancho Cotate LW: #19

El Cerrito had no trouble against De Anza and now will host Rancho Cotate before traveling to the state of Washington the following week.
